Steven D. Hartman has been a member of the NYCB Orchestra since 1987 and Principal Clarinet since 2009.  He also serves as Principal Clarinet of the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Opera Orchestra of New York and the New York Scandia Symphony, with which he recorded three solo works by B. H. Crusell on the Centaur label.  Mr. Hartman is Associate Principal Clarinet of the New York City Opera Orchestra and a guest Principal with the Orchestra of St. Lukes and the American Symphony.  In addition, for a number of years he has been a substitute or extra player with both the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera.  A native of St. Louis, he graduated from Juilliard and studied privately with Kalmen Opperman.
