Derek Ratzenboeck is a multi faceted artist and has experienced a diverse career as a performer and producer. He is a violinist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra since 2011 and has performed regularly with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. From the stages of Lincoln Center to the soundtrack recordings of the Oscar winning film Joker to the film sets of Greatest Showman, Derek can be seen and heard in many aspects of the entertainment industry. He has shared the stage with Tony Bennett for his 90th Birthday Celebration alongside Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, and Andrea Bocelli. In addition, he has appeared on the Today Show, LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, and performed at the Rainbow Room with Trisha Yearwood for her Frank Sinatra inspired album release. He has also performed in independent dance collaborations with choreographers Gabrielle Lamb (Pigeonwing Dance), most recently highlighted in Dance Magazine, and Cherylyn Lavagnino (CLD Dance), among others.


Derek received his Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from Indiana University School of Music, postgraduate studies at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and Master of Music Degree from the Hochschule fur Musik Music in Munich, Germany. His career has since taken him around the world performing on premiere stages and venues while touring with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, New York City Opera, and Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra in Europe, China, Japan, Brazil, and North America.


Derek is co-owner of the recording studio H&M Productions based in his hometown of Sarasota, FL and continues to produce in NYC. In 2020, he co-founded, with his fiancee Temple Kemezis, Arts ON AIR which is a virtual rooftop concert series that features leading artists of Lincoln Center, the classical music realm, and New York based choreographers. Arts ON AIR’s mission is to give opportunity for NYC based artists to safely return to performance during the pandemic era. Presently, Derek is producing a new ballet with Dancers and Musicians of New York City Ballet in collaboration with Skyla Schreter and composer Jeremy Beck.
