 Bin Lu joined the New York City Ballet in Orchestra in 1998.

A native of China, Lu began playing the violin at age 6. After studying for 10 years with Professors Dejin Sun and Zhilong Wang, he graduated with a Bachelor Degree of highest distinction from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1990.  He has also won numerous accolades in school and in Chinese Nationwide Violin Competitions. At age 19, Lu made his first appearance as a soloist with the Central Philharmonic Society (Presently known as the China National Symphony Orchestra), performing the Brahms violin concerto in D Major. He also performed with several other Orchestras in China. 

In 1997, Lu came to the United States to study on a full scholarship, with Professor Marilyn McDonald at Oberlin College & Conservatory of Music, earning the Artist Diploma. 

Prior to joining the NYCB Orchestra, Lu had already amassed a wealth of orchestra experience. This includes several titled positions such as: Concertmaster Chair of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra (1986-1987); Principal Second Violin Chair of the Central Philharmonic Society (1990-1996), Associate Concertmaster Chair of the China National Symphony Orchestra (1996-1997).

Besides playing in the Orchestra, Lu is also an active chamber musician. He has participated in a number of major festivals, toured the US, China and numerous countries in Europe and Asia, and was a founding member of the Central Philharmonic Society String Quartet.
